The road to greatness is rarely straight and narrow.
How many times have you found yourself in a rush to get a destination but forgot to enjoy the journey along the way? Life moves really fast today. There rarely is a moment for us to take a look around and see what’s going on to the left and to the right. It’s always go – go – go with little time for anything else but to keep pushing forward. But why are we in such a hurry? What is the big rush? When we get to the final destination what’s next? Most likely you are just finishing one task and then moving onto the next challenge with little to no time spent on where you ended up.
My challenge to you today is to take a deep breath and slow down! There is no rush. There is no pressure. There is no such thing as stress. Those are all made up by us. You will learn way more on your journey vs. blowing through trivial tasks every day just to get to the next task. One day you’ll wake up and question where did your life go? It will be just one big blur without much to show. And for what? Just to say you did something? That you checked the box off? I know it’s easier said than done, but you can do it! Life wasn’t meant to be lived in a hamster wheel.
I’m guilty of it too sometimes. Always racing from point A to point B to point C, especially when I travel. Great, I just saw the Rocky Mountains, took a picture, soaked up the atmosphere there for five minutes and moved on. But what was the point? Just to take a picture? I’ve learned that there is more to life than just a picture. That wherever you are, there are multiple elements in play. The people, the landscape, the air, the smells, the noises, the food, and the time you spend with whoever you’re with. Enjoy it all. Life is meant to be lived by experiences and if we’re all moving at 100 mph every single day, it’s really difficult to enjoy it because we are in constant motion.
So starting today I highly encourage you to focus on the journey and not the destination. Let things work themselves out and keep the faith that the road you’re on will get you to where you need to be. True, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but who says you have to stay on the beaten path? Life gets more fun when you wonder off, meet people unexpectedly and choose your own adventures. Embrace what you have around you and don’t pay any attention to all the people who are always in a race to cross the finish line and start another task. There is more to life than being in constant motion and some days it’s best to sit at the top of the mountain peak and soak up the view and everything else that goes with it. Climbing to the top is hard work and for that you should be rewarded with a break. Keep on moving forward but always remember that keeping busy for the sake of keeping busy will not get you to where you want to be.
